I was born and bred at Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island in 1988. I commenced surfing when I was 5 in the mellow waves at Cylinder Beach. In my younger days I was also heavily involved in Surf Lifesaving, having been in Nippers from under 7s to under 14s during which I won State and Branch Medals for Board Paddling.
My first major Surfing Contest was Grom Fest in the under 12s I finished in 5th place and was really upset that I didn’t make the final. That year (2000) Rip Curl offered me a sponsorship that continued until this year when they withdrew all financial support and offered only product, leaving me little option but to look for a new sponsor.
This year I achieved my Surfing Australia Level 1 Surf Coaching Certificate and coach when I’m not committed to training and competition schedules. My local break is Main Beach, which rates among the heaviest beaches in Australia. Main is also a great training ground for reef breaks around the world.
I intend to travel for my love of surfing, competing and life in general. I’ve competed in New Zealand, California, Tahiti, Maldives and Indonesia. I’ve also done some boat trips to Sumatra, Bali and Mentawais.
I started riding Mt Woodgee Surfboards shaped by Wayne McKewen when I was 13 and feel that this has been an important contributing factor as my surfing progressed. This is testament to the standard of handcrafted, high performance Surfboards the boys at Mt Woodgee Produce.
